COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tehama County Search + Rescue hosts its second annual crab feed fundraiser on Feb. 21 at the Fairgrounds Cafeteria, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and dinner served at 6 p.m. The event features a gun raffle and silent auction to support the team; tickets are $75 and available to TCSAR members or at American Embroidery Mart at 223 Main Street.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Anderson Union High School District will vote today at 6 p.m. on rehiring longtime football coach Greg Grandell (he resigned in 2020 amid hazing allegations he denied) via its consent agenda.  ShastaScout
  • Whiskeytown National Recreation Area invites public input on its plan to rebuild the Whiskeytown Environmental School with comments accepted until Feb. 21; the project calls for new cabins, an updated mess hall, safer materials, and amphitheater work beginning this spring + groundbreaking in two years.  Action News Now
  • Superintendent Mike Freeman+ announced his candidacy for County Superintendent and is campaigning on enhancing school safety, literacy and substance use prevention. Leading SCOE since 2024, he promises to expand effective programs+ in the June 2 primary.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An investigation by the Integral Ecology Research Center shows illegal cannabis grows have contaminated nearby public forest lands starting Nov. 12, 2025, and lingering chemicals continue to harm wildlife+water supplies while agencies struggle to secure funding for safe cleanups.  ShastaScout

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta County Health confirmed eight measles cases in the region; seven new patients were linked to an initial case while following isolation guidance. Public Health is notifying those who visited local sites January 23-28 and urges residents to check vaccination records and contact their provider if symptoms appear.  Action News Now
  • True North Behavioral Health has proposed a $200 million mental health campus in Shasta County (designed to enhance community care) that will offer improved services to meet rising local needs.  Record Searchlight
  • Public Health confirmed eight measles cases in Shasta County; all were close contacts of the initial patient and none of the new cases led to additional exposure sites. Residents who attended past events are urged to check their vaccine records and call the Health Information Line (530) 638-5580 if symptoms develop.  A News Cafe

  • Redding's Nello’s Place booked nearly 300 reservations for its busy Valentine’s dinner this Saturday, as owner Jim Dad + his wife Rosa plan special menus and tableside cooking. The family-run Italian restaurant on Bechelli Lane opens at 5 p.m. with early-bird specials.  Record Searchlight
