- ➤ Burney, a bull staffie mix (previously Pet of the Week at Haven Humane) found his forever home on Monday in Anderson, Calif. The community’s support spurred his adoption and a new happy beginning. KRCR
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Data from the California Office of Traffic Safety shows that 271 people died or were injured in Redding traffic collisions in 2023 (an increase of 43 from 2022), with pedestrians accounting for 21 of 37 county incidents. Record Searchlight
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Redding was named one of America’s best-performing small cities by the Milken Institute, ranking 14th out of 205 and the only California city in the top 50 as of today. Strong healthcare and education job growth boosted the ranking despite ongoing housing affordability challenges (a concern for local residents). Record Searchlight
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County Public Health reports that a measles patient visited several local spots on Jan. 23, including Ninja Coalition at Mount Shasta Mall after a flag game at Highland Park. Locals who may have been exposed are urged to call the Measles Hotline at 638-5580. KQMS
- ➤ Mercy Medical Center glows red throughout February to raise heart health awareness and urges locals to get screened for cardiac risk factors. The hospital invites the community to join its Walk With a Doc event (9 a.m. Feb. 21) near the Branch House for health insights. Record Searchlight
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Applications are open for low to moderate-income homeowners in high-fire zones in Shasta and Butte counties to get up to $350,000 for a home purchase as 15-20 applicants will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis; an info session is set for Feb 18, 7-8 p.m. at Redding City Hall. KRCR
- ➤ Realtor.com data showed Shasta County's median home price reached $385,000 in November, up 13.2% from last year & 5.5% from October, with 145 recorded sales totaling $58.8 million. Record Searchlight
