COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Whiskeytown National Recreation Area outside Redding will allow nearly 80 miles of trails for bicycles, e-bikes, and pedestrians. The rule takes effect on March 11 and covers planned improvements on 20 miles while about 9.6 miles remain for walking only.  Record Searchlight

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new restaurant, DeVine, will open today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the former View 202 on Hemsted Drive after hosting a complimentary meal for first responders on Feb. 5.  Record Searchlight

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Between Jan. 12 and 20, wildlife officials fitted GPS collars on five gray wolves captured in Lassen, Modoc, Siskiyou, Shasta and Tehama counties; one adult female from the Harvey pack died from injuries during capture. Data are sent daily to help ranchers avoid livestock conflicts using an online tracker.  KQMS

FINANCE NEWS

  • The IRS announced new tax brackets for 2025 and released the thresholds for 2026, noting that single filers pay 10% up to $11,925 and 37% above $626,350 while taxpayers can file starting Jan. 26 and pay by Apr. 15. Redding residents may want to review their withholding.  Record Searchlight

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Disaster Loan Outreach Center at City Hall is open to offer low-interest disaster loans to those affected by December's flooding. SBA representatives are available Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to assist residents, business owners, and nonprofits with loan applications.  KRCR
  • Traffic delays are expected from Feb. 9 through March 6 near the new office building on Shasta View Drive — crews installing sidewalks, curbs, and gutters on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. may slow vehicles.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta County Public Health said people at the Ninja Coalition on Dana Drive in Redding on January 23 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. may have been exposed to measles from an active case.  Action News Now
