COMMUNITY NEWS

  • One Safe Place reopened its walk-in service today at 8:30 a.m. after a nearly four-month closure due to a flood caused by a left-running bathtub; the facility now features new roofing, furniture, and toys while its hotline remains available to help survivors.  KRCR
  • Yesterday, around 1,000 veterans gathered at the Glenn County Fairgrounds (Orland) for a stand down event that offered essential services such as housing assistance and suicide prevention resources.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Trappist monastery in Vina earned another top wine award from the San Francisco Chronicle Sweepstakes among 5,500 entries, highlighting over 800 awards since planting vineyards in 2000 under winemaker Aimee Sunseri + its downtown Redding tasting room, opened over two years ago, keeps drawing local visitors.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Redding and Enterprise Elementary School Districts are competing in the Reading River Bowl to boost literacy through reading challenges. The contest began on Jan. 12 and will run until Jan. 30, inviting students (2nd–5th grade) and community supporters.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials considered lease options for Redding Motorsports Park after local clubs voiced access concerns, and resource manager Travis Menne said his team is reviewing several plans; a decision will be made in the coming weeks before the current lease expires in December 2026 – leaving the park's future uncertain.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu cases are rising in Shasta County as Mercy Medical Center in Redding reports more admissions among high-risk patients since December- local health officials say RSV and COVID-19 cases remain low but expect more flu cases through April.  Record Searchlight
  • The FDA warns that recalled tuna—from a year-old recall due to defective pull tabs—was mistakenly sent to Safeway, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions in California; shoppers should check pantries and discard the product.  Record Searchlight

  • The Shasta Family YMCA recognized two athletes as Athletes of the Week for Jan. 12-18, honoring U-Prep’s Aiden Hall for his standout basketball games and Anderson’s Natalie Sanders for winning a wrestling tournament — each marking success in local high school sports.  Record Searchlight
