COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta Family YMCA launched STRIDE, a daily program for adults with disabilities that teaches life skills + fitness through math, cooking, and swimming. It runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Y South, 1740 Eureka Way in Redding. Record Searchlight
- ➤ A local group formed a worker self-directed nonprofit (Cal’s Books Cooperative) to revive the iconic South Redding bookstore that closed in December after severe flooding. The cooperative has launched a GoFundMe to raise $50,000 for buying the business and covering repair costs. KQMS
- ➤ Kids Kingdom Park will close temporarily for repairs this week; city crews will work on Tuesday & Wednesday to re-pour concrete footings while residents are asked to respect barricades and signs. Action News Now
- ➤ The Redding Library will reopen in February after completing maintenance that fixed roof leaks and installed new carpet and shelving funded by a $798,000 grant from the California State Library — its first major upgrade since 2007. A book gala is scheduled for Feb. 21. KQMS

- ➤ Shasta County Office of Education seeks volunteers for its Reading Pals program to support local students by providing one-on-one reading help after school. No experience is required and volunteers will donate one to two hours weekly to boost reading skills. Action News Now
- ➤ Shasta High School District is celebrating 100 years with a community event starting at noon this Saturday at University Preparatory School. The event (featuring a 55-minute documentary, classroom demonstrations, and a Q&A) reconnects residents with their school legacy. KRCR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local conservation groups host outdoor events to boost environmental education in Redding and Shasta County. A panel on owl management is set for Jan 14 at Turtle Bay Nursery Classroom, and a guided hike with the Sierra Club is planned for Jan 24. Record Searchlight
