COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Shasta County Public Libraries team is working to return books to the Redding Library shelves after replacing the carpet. The building has been closed since August for its first update since opening in 2007 + further reopening details are pending.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews restored power to 338 customers after a large oak tree fell onto power lines in Shasta Lake on Wednesday, Jan. 7 — the tree caused a brief outage until service resumed.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shasta County’s Reading Pals program is seeking volunteers to provide after-school reading support at 11 local schools. Volunteer orientation is on Monday, Jan. 12, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Professional Development Center on Innsbruck Drive + volunteers may sign up for sessions on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Whiskeytown Lake reached full capacity after heavy rainfall as of midnight, and officials from the Bureau of Reclamation monitor if water will flow over the 24-foot Glory Hole spillway — they plan to lower the reservoir soon since no rain is forecast this week.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Shasta Lake announced that Lake Boulevard will be closed for Centimudi Water Tank construction from Jan. 20 until April 17; drivers heading to Shasta Dam or the Centimudi Boat Ramp should use Highway 151 as an alternate route.  Action News Now
  • After a recent storm that led to 60 water rescues, Redding officials urged residents and businesses suffering flood damage to fill out a reporting form on the city website. The reported data will help support state agencies in assessing emergency funding needs.  Record Searchlight
  • Longtime Congressman Doug LaMalfa, a rice farmer elected in 2012, died Monday evening at Enloe Medical Center in Chico after suffering a heart attack during surgery. Leaders including Gov. Gavin Newsom and House Speaker Mike Johnson honored his dedication to Northern California.  KQMS

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Shasta County health clinic is tackling a provider shortage by recruiting new doctors and nurse practitioners, Dr. James Mu said. Dr. Joby Morrow, the new medical director for the Substance Use Disorder Program, met community members at Hill Country Gold Street Medical Clinic on Jan. 7 — a move to boost local training opportunities.  KRCR
