- ➤ Redding residents can dispose of their Christmas trees this January by placing pieces that do not fit in the green waste bin next to it — a truck will collect them between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9. Action News Now
- ➤ The Shasta Family YMCA will launch the STRIDE program in January to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Y South on Eureka Way, the program offers life skills, fitness and swimming—reimbursable through the Far Northern Regional Center. KRCR

- ➤ A supermoon was hard to see Friday, Jan. 2, in the Northstate due to rain and clouds, but a Blood Moon eclipse on March 3 and more supermoons in November and December will give residents another chance for clear views at the Schreder Planetarium (a local venue). KRCR

- ➤ California gas prices for regular fuel fell to an average of $4.04 per gallon on Jan. 3, down from last week's $4.08, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration—prices declined for the second consecutive week and have dropped about 32 cents since last month. Record Searchlight

- ➤ Redding was picked to host the inaugural Ironman 70.3 triathlon that will take place this August. The race will feature a 1.2-mile swim at Whiskeytown Lake, a 56-mile bike ride along Eureka Way, and a half marathon finish from Oak Bottom Beach + it is expected to boost local tourism. ShastaScout
