Good morning, Redding. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 29th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After Thanksgiving, the Salvation Army has placed Angel Trees in Walmart, Applebees, and Olive Garden across Shasta County to help give Christmas gifts to over 1,500 kids. Shoppers can take a name tag from a tree and return a gift with the tag—helping families as the community fills the gap left by the retirement of Toys for Tots.  KRCR
  • Downtown Redding will close streets starting at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6 for the Christmas Parade, which begins at 6 p.m.—roads will remain closed until law enforcement reopens them after the event. Organizers advise residents and visitors not to park on the route after 3 p.m.—vehicles will be towed if parked improperly.  KRCR
  • Cal Fire and Lassen Steakhouse owners clarified that an AI-altered photo from a local outlet overstated Friday's fire, which started behind a soda machine and was contained before spreading — inspectors confirmed the building is salvageable while reopening depends on contractors and insurance. The adjacent Lassen Gardens will operate as scheduled as the restaurant updates rebuilding plans.  KRCR
  • Brad and Bobbie Court have expanded Buzzing Homestead's self-service Christmas tree farm into a full family adventure — offering s'more kits, a hay maze, food trucks, a craft fair and photos with Santa Claus — and the event will run every Friday to Sunday from today to December 21. This holiday experience, which features Christmas trees brought in from Oregon, aims to create lasting memories for local families.  KRCR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fog settling across the Northstate has reduced road visibility and raised accident risks, prompting the National Weather Service to advise drivers to use low-beam headlights and keep a safe distance—California Highway Patrol also warns motorists to stay alert for wildlife. Drivers are told to pull over safely when visibility becomes extremely low.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wintu poet Alfred Gillis testified before Congress in 1922 to fight for justice after the government broke treaties that promised native lands. His poems and speeches continue to inspire restoration efforts along the McCloud River—an enduring legacy of his work.  ShastaScout
  • Redding band Not Your Babe unveiled its self-titled debut album on Friday, November 28th at The Dip at 8 p.m.—marking their one-year anniversary. The album features the track Katie, named after lead singer Cam Zeller’s sister.  KRCR
