- ➤ The Community Foundation of the North State gave $28,200 in Animal Welfare Grants to eight groups in Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties to help care for animals, fix up shelters and plan for emergencies. Haven Humane Society and Siskiyou Humane Society got $5,000 each while the others received between $2,500 and $3,500 to support their work. Record Searchlight

- ➤ Downtown Redding is gearing up for Small Business Saturday as over 30 small businesses will host a passport event where shoppers will collect stamps at 10 locations and enter a prize drawing. Organizers expect the event to boost local revenue by 20% and will feature 18 live concerts on two stages — a sign that the day will support community projects. KRCR

- ➤ Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency will host a forum at 9 a.m. December 4 at the Board of Supervisors Chambers in Redding to discuss Senate Bill 43 that may affect people with severe substance abuse disorders— the meeting will feature a question-and-answer session for mental health service users, their families, and professionals as the county prepares to adopt the changes starting Jan. 1, 2026. - ➤ ASPCA toxicology expert Tina Wismer warned pet owners during Thanksgiving to avoid feeding pets harmful foods such as onions, garlic, grapes, chocolate, and alcohol (these items can cause serious health issues) and urged them to call a veterinarian immediately (if a pet ingested any of these foods).
