- ➤ On Nov. 14, several groups in Shasta County honored veterans in two events—RABA held its 16th Salute to Veterans fundraiser providing free bus fares while the Redding Veterans Home hosted its Adopt-a-Vet gift drive to gather holiday presents. Local volunteers joined the events to show respect and support for those who served. KRCR
- ➤ United Way of Northern California is offering $100 gift cards via its Emergency Financial Assistance Program to help Cal Fresh users facing delays due to the government shutdown — the limited aid provides immediate relief to those affected — as federal food support remains suspended. KQMS
- ➤ Local bikers will host the second Annual Shasta Toy Drive and Christmas Cruise to help children in need this holiday season. The cruise will begin at 4 p.m. on November 29 from Redding Walmart and end at the Grange Co-Op parking lot + toys will be given out to brighten the season. KRCR

- ➤ A celebration of life in Redding will honor flight nurse Suzie Smith, who died in a medical helicopter crash in Sacramento, and hundreds of local community members are expected to attend. - ➤ Shasta County's Youth Firesetter Prevention & Intervention program teaches fire risks to kids with classes and drills for ages 5 to 18. - ➤ The United States Forest Service will begin prescribed burns on November 17 through November 21 in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest to reduce overgrown vegetation that poses a wildfire risk to nearby communities and infrastructure. Residents near the burn sites may face temporary closures and smoke, so drivers should slow down and use headlights when passing the affected areas. Action News Now
- ➤ Lassen Volcanic National Park closed its main through-road on Wednesday due to heavy autumn snow and ice; visitors can still camp, ski, and snowshoe—some park roads remain closed until spring—while they check weather and road conditions before arriving.
