COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Community Foundation established three Critical Response funds in Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties to help local nonprofits assist households with food, housing and utilities while federal benefits face delays—each fund starts with $2,500 and grants will be awarded on a rolling basis by local community stakeholders.  Record Searchlight
  • On November 10, hundreds gathered in Igo to honor veterans with flags and flowers—local residents came together to show respect for those who served. The event highlighted a community effort to remember the sacrifices made by veterans.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A groundbreaking project is underway in Redding as FABRIC Mass Timber and WRNS Studio plan the state’s first large-scale mass timber factory—a 200,000-square-foot facility set to transform wildfire-fuel wood into sustainable building products and create local jobs. Officials said the project will offer design consulting, engineering support, education workshops, and pre-fabricated housing efforts—boosting California’s low-carbon goals.  Action News Now

  • On Sunday, shoppers at Mt. Shasta Mall enjoyed a one-hour performance by The Goodtime Band, who played patriotic tunes in front of JCPenney — honoring local veterans ahead of Veterans Day — and supporting youth music programs.  KRCR
  • Archetype Pictures released the trailer for The Dresden Sun, an action thriller filmed at local sites like downtown Redding and Redding Civic Auditorium that marked the county's largest film production. It stars Christina Ricci, Steven Ogg + Mena Suvari and will debut in February.  KRCR
  • Chad Bushnell, an Anderson singer-songwriter, won Country Artist of the Year at the JMAs in Nashville on November 2 + his win was his third from the awards. He will perform at his fourth annual Honky Tonk Throwdown at the Red Bluff State Theatre on November 15 at 7 p.m.  Record Searchlight
  • In November, six live shows will take place at local venues including Rain Rock Casino, Feather Falls, Win River, and Rolling Hills — an event schedule spanning Nov. 14, 15, 16, 20, 22, and 23 — featuring a comedy night with Adam Freeman and Brandon Vestal in Yreka, a fight night at Win River, and music shows by Tennessee River, Fast Times, Matt Rainey, and AC Myles.  Record Searchlight

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • National Forest Service crews began prescribed burns near Weaverville, McCloud, Mount Shasta and Lake Shasta on Monday and will continue the operations through the week. Smoke may be visible in nearby areas while updates are posted on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest social media pages.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Some California residents who waited months for full SNAP benefits may soon see a 35% cut to their payments as USDA orders states to undo full payment files—California must work to reclaim the funds—and failure to do so could lead to penalties and funding cuts.  KRCR
  • Today, Veterans Day marks the last Fee-Free National Park Day as sites that normally charge fees, including Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and Lassen Volcanic National Park, will offer free entry. Redding officials encourage residents to take advantage of crisp fall weather—bringing a jacket and snack for an outdoor adventure.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Shasta County Health and Human Service Agency invites local residents to join a quarterly workgroup on the Behavioral Health Services Act to discuss new plans for local mental health services. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on November 20 at the Mae Helene Bacon Boggs Building at 2420 Breslauer Way—this act is funded by a 1% tax on incomes over $1 million and supports programs for mental health, substance abuse, housing, and workforce issues.  Action News Now

  • The California Interscholastic Federation released state tournament brackets on November 9 showing which Redding-area girls volleyball teams made the playoffs — Redding Christian will face St. Vincent de Paul on November 12 at 6 p.m. while Foothill will play against Heritage on November 11 at 6 p.m.  Record Searchlight
