- ➤ Good News Rescue Mission will host the 18th Annual Harvest of Hope Gala on Saturday, October 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the Redding Civic Auditorium — national advocate Donald Whitehead Jr. will speak as he shares his journey from hardship to success and the event will include live music and a dinner to support local outreach. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Redding police served search warrants on Friday at two homes—one on Jordan Drive and another on Millpond Lane—and seized over 21 pounds of processed cannabis, 41 firearms, and $465,000 in cash, along with additional guns and evidence of a second indoor grow operation. KQMS
- ➤ Redding police arrested 48-year-old Jason Wiebusch—already on parole for assault with great bodily injury—after a stabbing near the rodeo grounds on July 27th when officers responded to a boat ramp and found him with a stab wound to his lower neck; he was sent to a hospital, remained held on million dollars bail, and faced a third strike charge with a preliminary hearing set for Thursday. - ➤ A 19-year-old Redding man, Alejandro Armstrong, fatally shot 50-year-old homeless man Karl Lee Bernardo near Mercy Hospital in Linden Canyon in 2021 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole and 25 additional years. KQMS
- ➤ A man named Phillip Ault threatened a Good Samaritan with a razor blade on June 30 on the Sacramento River Trail near Diestelhorst Bridge in Redding and was sentenced last Thursday to 11 years in state prison for criminal threats—he had a prior strike for assault with a deadly weapon. KQMS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last week, lightning storms started 29 fires in Klamath National Forest, with 19 of them contained at minor acreage along Highway 96 — the Big Cliff Fire burned 530 acres west of the Russian Wilderness and led to the closure of the Pacific Crest Trail from Carter Summit to Etna Summit. Crews controlled the 21,058 acre Butler Fire, which was 91% contained, and managed 18 small fires on Shasta-Trinity National Forest as more lightning was forecast. KQMS

- ➤ The Redding council addressed concerns about the Peaks project after a grand jury report revealed a lack of community engagement in plans to develop 113 acres in northwest Redding. Some residents also expressed worries about fire safety and evacuation routes—prompting officials to review the project details. Action News Now
- ➤ The City of Redding began charging residents nearly $500 for non-emergency lift assistance on January 1—bills have been sent retroactive to that date and the fee may extend to cover all EMS calls, with waivers available if special circumstances apply. KRCR
