- ➤ On July 22, United Way of Northern California announced that its Building Bridges initiative received $650,000 in funding from donors including the California Endowment, McConnell Foundation, Redding Rancheria, Sierra Health Foundation + Sierra Pacific Industries to support sessions that help unite community members with different political views. The funds will pay for staff, program development, and marketing as the initiative works to build a more united Shasta County. ShastaScout

- ➤ On Tuesday afternoon, a woman jumped from a moving van in the McArthur area and suffered major trauma to her head, torso and legs—she was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center while the driver kept driving until he was located by CHP. KQMS

- ➤ Redding Police cracked down on illegal flavored tobacco sales after inspections at Cloud 9 Smoke Shop on Victor Avenue and Tobacco N Vapez on Churn Creek Road—hidden menus and duffel bags with over 900 items were found—and a Police Cadet cited five customers on July 18 following state bans approved in 2020 and 2022. - ➤ Local police arrested 44-year-old Augustine Witcraft on Wednesday during a traffic stop on I-5 near the Bridge Bay offramp, finding more than 5 pounds of meth in six bags and a loaded handgun under his seat—he had outstanding felony domestic violence warrants. KQMS
- ➤ A Cottonwood man, 71-year-old Frank Kerrigan, was charged with a felony after the sheriff’s team raided his home on Tuesday at Ina Way and found 25 growing cannabis plants, 132 pounds processed bud, a pistol and ammo — evidence of shipping marijuana out-of-state led to his arrest and he was booked on $25,000 bail. - ➤ Authorities arrested Roger Neil Schmidt Sr. in Tuscon, Arizona last Friday — DNA evidence linked him to the 1984 shooting of Terry Arndt and the sexual assault of an 18-year-old near Burney High School, and extradition proceedings are underway. KQMS

- ➤ National forest firefighters are using drones to map the Green Fire burning northeast of Redding in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and drop ping pong balls filled with chemicals to start backfires in remote areas—this method helps control the blaze while keeping crews safe.
