CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police in Redding searched downtown near Eureka Way on May 27 after a suspect in a Ford pickup truck hit a parked car on West Street and fled, later leaving his truck in an apartment parking lot before running south across Eureka Way and being located inside an apartment while a shelter in place order on Chestnut Street was lifted. - ➤ Simon Tikue was sentenced by Judge Tamara Wood to 107 years to life without parole plus 18 extra years in prison after he was found guilty of murdering Meba Getachew and Gunnar Yeager in Oak Run and robbing a victim in Redding—victim impact statements from the families underscored their deep loss—. - ➤ Redding Police arrested 25-year-old Carlos Bishop and 24-year-old April Escobar after a May 16th assault in North Redding left a woman in intensive care—warrants were acquired and the suspects were booked on multiple felony charges at their Willis Street home. KQMS
- ➤ On Sunday evening, Redding Police reported a high-speed crash in South Redding after a white Infiniti hatchback driven by 32-year-old Corey Walter of Shasta Lake City exceeded 100 mph on Railroad Avenue and failed to navigate a curve near Buenaventura Boulevard—he was ejected from the car and is hospitalized with moderate injuries. - ➤ Sherri Papini released her four-part docuseries on Investigation Discovery on May 26th that changes her 2016 story by saying her ex-boyfriend abducted her even though she admitted to making parts of it up. She had a custody hearing on Tuesday and has a temporary restraining order hearing today—media earnings over $5,000 will face up to a 75% garnishment. KRCR

- ➤ The Shasta County Board of Supervisors reviewed plans for a local medical school on Tuesday when consultant Chriss Street showed the need for more primary care doctors by pointing out that only 58 currently practice in the area + local experts and leaders, including Simpson University’s president and Council Member Paul Dhanuka, backed the proposal. The board also decided to keep its elections commission suspended but intact. KRCR
- ➤ Redding Electric Utility is preparing plans for possible power shutoffs during fire season this summer that may impact up to 2,000 of its 45,000 customers—officials are reviewing both overhead and underground lines to improve safety. Action News Now
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Kyrie Jewett, a 22-year-old from Shasta County, is in critical condition at CPMC Van Ness in San Francisco after collapsing at work on May 14 and is now on a ventilator while urgently awaiting a liver transplant for diet-related cirrhosis—her mother said the incident shows a growing health concern over junk food diets. Once Kyrie becomes fully alert, she will be moved to the top of the transplant list. KRCR
