- ➤ Representatives from the American Legion Auxiliary donated over 120 red crepe paper poppies to the Redding Veterans Home on May 23 to honor fallen soldiers on National Poppy Day. The poppies symbolized a long tradition of tribute and reminded residents of the local support for veterans. KRCR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors in Redding will meet to discuss dissolving its elections commission, which has had only two active members since its suspension earlier this year—Clerk and Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis requested the change. Final approval on the proposal will come on Monday, June 9, before budget hearings begin. KRCR
- ➤ A public meeting at the Red Lion Hotel on May 20 presented a California Energy Commission report that said the Fountain Wind project would harm tribal sites, wildlife and public safety — tribal leaders and local residents voiced strong opposition while Repsol representatives defended the project as a step toward green energy despite doubts it would serve local needs. Representatives from Repsol stressed potential job creation even as critics argued the project could damage the area’s cultural and natural resources. ShastaScout
- ➤ Lassen National Forest welcomed Rick Hopson as its new Forest Supervisor — he plans to build strong community partnerships and support sustainable management of public lands. Hopson brings decades of public service experience and is set to work with local and tribal leaders to guide future forest efforts. Action News Now

- ➤ After 15 years, Kathy Siegle retired as the founder of Shasta Sports Day and passed the event to the Shasta County Special Olympics, who will expand the competition for special needs students. The event began in 2009 at Central Valley High School in Shasta Lake + Siegle said she will help each year to keep the legacy alive. KRCR
