- ➤ On April 4th, Kay McCurry said she was denied entry to a Redding Costco when an employee claimed her service dog, Pennie, was an emotional support dog—despite her offer to provide its paperwork. McCurry, who relies on Pennie for anxiety response after six years together, said the store’s action conflicts with legal guidelines on service animals. KRCR
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A National Guard truck crashed in Trinity County on Wednesday afternoon when at 1:20 p.m. it rounded a sharp corner, left the pavement, broke through a guard rail and landed upside‑down—causing major head and leg injuries to the driver who was airlifted to Mercy Hospital and minor head injuries to a passenger taken by ground ambulance. - ➤ Ronnie Dean Stout II, 43, who is accused of starting the Park Fire that burned 430,000 acres and destroyed over 700 structures, appeared in Butte County Superior Court Thursday afternoon — his arraignment had been delayed due to a legal dispute with the district attorney's office. KRCR
- ➤ A suspect in a north Redding shooting had charges filed on Wednesday morning including attempted murder, mayhem, assault with a firearm and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm after a man was shot in the upper body at Twin View Mobile Home Park on Sunday night, and 57-year-old Steven George King is held on a $500,000 bail while the victim is recovering in hospital. - ➤ California poppies are in full bloom at Old Shasta Historic Park as Poppyfest will take place on April 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — the free spring celebration will offer guided nature walks, blacksmith demonstrations, and poppy arts and crafts while officials warn that picking the iconic state flowers is illegal. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Golden mussels, an invasive species first found last October, threaten Redding lakes by clogging pipes and harming local ecosystems and recreation. Whiskeytown rangers and CDFW officials are asking boaters to clean, drain — and dry their equipment before using watercraft in different lakes to stop the mussels from spreading. Record Searchlight

- ➤ The City of Redding announced overnight road work on Friendly Road near 1470 due to a new Raising Cane's restaurant construction starting April 13 through April 27 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.—the project will include trench work and lane closures at the intersection with Dana Drive and the Highway 44 on/off ramp. - ➤ Dr. Kyle Patton, Redding’s street doctor, co-authored a paper that shows encampment sweeps force homeless people into unsafe conditions and disrupt their care. The paper calls for working with law enforcement and social services to improve access to housing and support — a proposal that draws on his five years of street medicine experience. KRCR
- ➤ Redding cancer survivor Cori Casebeer, who has stage four lung cancer and relies on a clinical research trial for life-saving medicine, warned that federal job cuts from March and funding reductions to lung cancer research may disrupt treatment.
