- ➤ Lake Redding Golf Course is set to become a driving range as Tierra Oaks Golf Course owner begins construction later in April + the facility will welcome up to 35 players per hour when it opens in May. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Bethel Church announced last week it hired Sintra Group Professional Investigations to look into abuse allegations against leader Ben Armstrong. The church said the firm has over 20 years of investigative experience (its work with clergy cases is unconfirmed) and will help review its leadership for better accountability. ShastaScout

- ➤ As gas prices near $6 a gallon statewide, drivers in Redding are turning to apps like GasBuddy for better deals; AAA advises saving money by paying with cash and keeping tire pressure checked to boost fuel economy. KRCR
- ➤ California gas prices rose to an average of $5.77 per gallon on Monday — up from $5.71 last week, according to the Energy Information Administration. Analysts say spring demand and tensions abroad could push prices another 20 to 30 cents in the coming weeks. Record Searchlight

- ➤ The College of the Siskiyous fire academy program received the Ronny J. Coleman Award for Academy of Excellence for its strong leadership and quality training. - ➤ Coleman National Fish Hatchery released 3.5 million young fall Chinook salmon this week (3 million went to Battle Creek and 400,000 entered the Sacramento River at Tisdale) as managers boosted river flows with a Shasta Dam pulse to help the fish start their journey downstream. KRCR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The California Public Utilities Commission proposed changes to the Climate Credit so residents with eligible utilities will receive electric bill credits during high-use months instead of the usual April and October cycles (vote due April 30). Natural gas credits remain on April bills. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Officials from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest said local offices, staffing and wildfire response remain unchanged after the U.S. Forest Service reorganization announced March 31 (which closed other California offices). Regular operations will continue in the large northern forest. KRCR
- ➤ CAL FIRE crews are clearing brush and burning piles west of Jones Valley in the Greater Backbone area this weekend to reduce wildfire risk ahead of fire season. Officials said smoke may be visible during operations — the process remains expected and closely monitored. Action News Now
- ➤ Yesterday, Redding Police and City crews cleared homeless camps, trash, invasive vegetation, and debris from a drainage channel near Hartnell Avenue and Bechelli Lane — a cleanup carried out with permits to protect the Sacramento River waterway. KRCR
