COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City of Shasta Lake provided an update on its plans for a new disc golf course yesterday and officials noted progress on design & location, saying more details will be shared soon.  Action News Now
  • Annie Griffin in Tehama County and her 82-year-old brother Donald Hefke discovered they are siblings after eight decades apart when a DNA test on Ancestry.com — confirmed their link. The siblings, separated as infants, have begun talking online and plan to meet in the future.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, Mar. 8, a Bay Area climber fell about 700 feet on Mount Shasta during a late afternoon descent and waited overnight for rescue as hazardous conditions delayed help — he was later transported to Mercy Medical Center.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Eaton House, built in the late 1800s, is now a museum preserving Judge Richard Eaton’s former home near downtown. Local historians maintain the historic property so visitors can learn how early families lived in the area.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hydraulic oil was released into Ruth Dam (Trinity County) on Mar. 12, and officials said there is no known risk to the public.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Emergency construction on Highway 299 in Shasta County remains ongoing, and motorists should expect traffic delays + consider alternate routes as crews work to complete urgent repairs.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta officials project the measles outbreak will end on March 30 if no new cases appear. They reported all nine confirmed cases affected unvaccinated children and used contact tracing + outreach to limit the spread.  ShastaScout
  • State funding under BHCIP did not include the proposed True North Behavioral Health Campus (a $206 million project meant to offer crisis stabilization and coordinated care) in Shasta County after 16 months' support from 12 counties and 69 endorsements. Coalition partners will keep looking for solutions to rural health needs.  Action News Now
  • A study released on March 12 found PFAS pesticides in 37% of tested California produce, with stone fruits and strawberries showing the highest levels, according to the Environmental Working Group. Regulators said residue levels meet federal limits and advised shoppers to wash produce or choose organic options.  Record Searchlight
  • A report from 2025 blamed political differences for Shasta County’s health care crisis marked by high death rates and a shortage of doctors, and county health officials are now working with community partners to expand access to care.  Record Searchlight
  • Caregivers at Oakmont of Redding noticed a 95-year-old resident's stroke signs during a routine check and quickly dialed 911. Paramedics arrived in less than 10 minutes, taking her to Mercy Medical Center where the swift response is credited with saving her life.  Action News Now
