  • A new paved walking path linking Wildwood Park to downtown is set to be built as part of the $4M Calaboose Creek Revitalization Project funded by a state grant. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly half of California’s K‑12 teachers plan to retire in the next decade, Education Week’s report shows, putting pressure on school staffing. The study finds teacher morale is slightly higher than the national average (16 vs 13) with challenges over class sizes and student discipline still to come.  Record Searchlight
  • Four Shasta County students won a spelling bee hosted by the County Office of Education and will represent the county at the state competition in April. The winners include Rhea Little, Max Gumm, Bastian Adams, and Roxanne Kidson.  Action News Now

  • A local gun club on Modesta View Court faces more than $105,000 in fines and misdemeanor land use charges for exceeding its grading permit, with the property owner set to appeal the ruling at a May 22 hearing *neighbors and officials have raised concerns about the site’s unapproved use*.  Record Searchlight

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors and therapists say that caring for elderly loved ones (a full-time duty) often leads to burnout with stress, sleep loss and depression—especially when caring for someone with dementia. They advise families to seek help from local aging agencies to get a break and avoid feeling overwhelmed.  KRCR
  • MEDIKO Correctional Healthcare will upgrade medical, dental, and behavioral health services at Shasta County Jail today, following a unanimous Board of Supervisors vote. The program will add 10 staff and expand clinical hours while partnering with community hospitals to improve emergency care.  Action News Now
